Case 26 – the beginning

You are reviewing a set of coagulation results and note the following:

  • PT 14
  • APTT 46
  • Fibrinogen 7

What would you do next? What further information would you like to have?

Your answer will depend on whether you are:

  • a clinician: do you delay a procedure/surgery? What could be going on? And you can’t just say call a haematologist!
  • a BMS – what is the next test? What are the possibilities?
  • a Haematology registrar reviewing the abnormal results queue in the lab – what are your differentials?

Tell us what your role is and what you think about these results by joining us on twitter using #teamhaem. We want everyone to join us to learn about haematology so don’t be shy – have a guess and learn as you follow the case.

See you over on twitter!

Please reply on Twitter and always include #teamhaem to allow others to follow your comments. Please join in the debate and learn about haematological problems along the way. The case will continue to  evolve over the coming week so keep checking #teamhaem for more information.
