So far we have a pregnant lady who is feeling tired and has a microcytic anaemia. It is likely she has iron deficiency. Her family origin questionnaire is done as part of antenatal screening and she states that she is white and from the UK, as were her and the baby’s father’s parents. She is also mildly thrombocytopenic (blood count in previous post). Here is her blood film and HPLC:
Questions:
- How would you report the film?
- Is the HPLC concerning?
- What are the benefits of iron replacement?
- When would you next check her blood count?
- How much iron do you give?
